Gerakan Pembela Ummah held a rally outside Masjid Jamek on May 4 to voice out their dissatisfaction towards the government over their methods in handling issues pertaining to ICERD, Rome Statute, UEC and the riots at Seafield temple.
The protest dubbed as “405 Gathering” was reported to have attracted approximately 4,000 people, dressing in white.
From the media intelligence perspective, it is noticeable that the rally attracted the non-mainstream media more than the mainstream ones.
Political blog Malaysians Must Know The Truth, is the most active medium to write on Gerakan Pembela Ummah, with 16 articles. Malay Mail took the second position with 14 articles, but the other mainstream media like Utusan, Sinar Harian and The Star published less than 10 articles pertaining the topic.
Other non-mainstream media which made it into the top 10 media are, Malaysia Gazette (11 articles), Dialog Rakyat (10 articles) and Harakah Daily (9 articles).
However, the influencer that is dominating the “Gerakan Pembela Ummah” topic is Home Affairs Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and not the organisers.
The minister said that the 405 Gathering was organised to tarnish the image of Pakatan Harapan government of not protecting the Muslims. He reaffirmed that the truth is the opposite. Then, he reminded the public that stern police action will be taken against those who insult religion of others.
Additionally, tomorrow (May 9) will mark the first anniversary of Pakatan Harapan government. UMNO’s Tun Faisal urged Malaysians to wear black to show their dissatisfaction towards the government’s performance.
