Lynas has been an ongoing issue in Malaysia since 2008. Earlier this month, the rare-earth processing plant made headlines when Australia shot down Malaysia’s bid to return Lynas’ waste. This subsequently puts the Ministry of Energy, Technology, Environment and Climate Change of Malaysia (MESTECC) in an undesirable position.
Previously, Environment Minister Yeo Bee Yin came out with an ultimatum requiring Lynas to ship its waste back to Australia before September this year if the rare-earth mining company want its licence to be renewed.
This subsequently puts the Environment Minister as the most popular individual to be quoted by the media when it comes to the Lynas issue.
However, Yeo has been absent from the influencers list of Lynas, despite being the one who came out with the pre-conditions for the plant’s license renewal. This puts her in a bad light for not playing her part in leading MESTECC to resolve the Lynas issue.
