Penang Undersea Tunnel project was a hot issue during the early 2018. Lim Guan Eng was put into a hot seat just months before the GE-14. It is quite surprising for the issue to quickly sooth down in April, a month before the general election.
However, the media seems to have forgotten about the undersea tunnel project after Pakatan Harapan took over the government. Lim has moved from Chief Minister of Penang to Finance Minister.
The trend continues in 2019. Less than 10 news were reported on the mega-project in January and February.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow came out with the latest update on the project, but the feasibility study has yet to be completed.
Subsequently, Najib attacked Lim for the delay of the sustainability study which consequently wasted the people’s money.
However, Lim did not respond on the matter. Instead, he addressed another mega-project, ECRL. Yet, he said that he will not comment on the project as it is still under negotiations and his statement might affect the outcome of the negotiations.
Besides Najib, other opposition seems to keep mum on the undersea tunnel project. Plus, it looks like Lim has been distancing himself form the project.
Do Lim has been cleared from the alleged corruption regarding the project? Or it was just another politically motivated move made by Najib to destroy Lim?
